Among the famous notebook manufacturers, there are also less famous ones. Few of you have heard about Gateway. Some of the Gateway notebooks have decent performance and maybe the advantage that you will get is a bit cheaper than the famous ones. Allow us to introduce to you  Gateway MT6840.

Design:

There are no distinct design elements present on this laptop, it is just basic. If you like the basic designs, with nothing fancy you will maybe like this. The keyboard is a bit thin, there was still space to make it wider, but manufacturers decided it is not necessary. The touch pad is of good size however and it is easy to use.

Performance:

Although it was intended as a budget laptop, the specifications are way better that the average budget class. The notebook’s soul is an Intel Core 2 Duo T2450, which is a good dual core processor. With a clock speed of 2 GHz, this component assures a good reliability and a fast operation. The standard unit comes with 1 GB Random Access Memory, but for a 2 GHz processor this is a bit few. The notebook can support a total amount of 4 GB, but if you’re short on money, 2 GB RAM will do just fine. Your notebook will get considerably faster and more responsive. The RAM’s are DDR2 type in two RAM slots. You’ll have plenty of storage space, ad the Gateway MT6840 has a 160 GB Hard Disk Drive.

Those of you who need more can switch it to something bigger, but for the majority this will do. Its 5400 rpm gives it a fast data transfer rate. The standard 15.4 inch widescreen display has a native 1280 x 800 resolution depth, which is just about the average for this display class. Don’t expect to play 3D games, because the integrated Intel GMA 950 Dynamic Video Memory Technology 3.0 shows us that this is not a gaming laptop. The maximum allocated 224.0 MB video memory will do just fine with normal tasks, but it will not run advanced 3D applications.

Overall:

For those of you who are not dependent on the famous brands in the notebook world, this is quite a decent laptop. It is excellent for students and even for businessmen. It combines a simple, but elegant design with considerably higher than usual budget performance. It is a good deal.11
